Joseph Oyama, M.D., FACP
Dr. Oyama received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois. After completing a combined residency at Cook County and University of Illinois, Dr. Oyama went on to Rush University for his fellowship training. His career has included numerous academic appointments and awards as well as administrative positions including President of the Medical Staff at Christ Hospital. He currently is Chairman of the Division of Nephrology at Christ hospital and is actively involved in medical education with his appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois. Dr. Oyama is active with the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois and serves on the Medical Advisory Board.
Kent Armbruster, M.D., FACP
Native of Southern Illinois, Dr. Armbruster received his undergraduate degree Washington University in St. Louis and his medical degree from the University of Illinois. Medical Residency was completed at Rush University and after a two year military service in North Carolina; he returned to complete his nephrology training. Throughout his career, Dr Armbruster has had many academic and administrative positions. He is currently appointed as Clinical Instructor of Medicine at both the University of Illinois and Rush Medical School. Dr. Armbruster is Vice President of Medical Affairs at Little Company of Mary Hospital.Ronald Hamburger, M.D., FACP
Born in Oklahoma and raised in Illinois, Dr. Hamburger received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the College of Wooster in Ohio where he graduated with honors. He went on to complete his medical degree, residency, and nephrology fellowship from the University of Illinois. Dr Hamburger is an active member of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois where he has served as President from 2000 - 2003 and currently serves on their Board of Directors. He is medical director of the Fresinius dialysis facility in Crestwood and acts as Director of Dialysis Services at Palos Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Hamburger is Secretary of the Medical Staff at Palos Hospital and appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois. Special interests include peritoneal dialysis.
Demetrios Zikos, M.D.
Native to Greece, Dr. Zikos completed his education with a medical degree from the University of Thessaloniki. Residency in Internal Medicine was completed at Christ Hospital after which he went on to the University of Chicago for Nephrology training. Dr. Zikos has been very active in academic pursuits while with Southwest Nephrology and has headed multiple investigations in renal physiology while at Christ. He holds academic appointments at the University of Illinois and Chicago Medical School. Dr Zikos has been awarded "Teacher of the Year" on five separate occasions at Chris Hospital and has worked in developing the education curriculum for the Department of Medicine. Dr. Zikos heads the Kidney Stone Clinic for Southwest Nephrology and has special interests in renal physiology and clinical research.
Kelly Guglielmi, M.D.
Raised and educated in Milwaukee, Dr Guglielmi received her Bachelors degree at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. After working in occupational therapy for three years, she went on to graduate from the Medical College of Wisconsin where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Nephrology training was completed through the Medical College of Wisconsin after which she joined Southwest Nephrology. Dr. Guglielmi serves as medical director Fresenius Dialysis in Oak Lawn as well as inpatient dialysis at Christ hospital. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. A few special interests include hypertension, kidney stones, and continuous dialysis modalities. She most recently has been appointed Associate Chief of Nephrology at Christ Hospital.
Abraham Thomas, M.D., MPH
Born in India and raised in South Africa, Dr Thomas received his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Kerala, Trivandrum. He is fluent in Malayalam. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr Thomas went on to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore to receive both his Masters in Public Health and Nephrology fellowship training. He is currently board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He has published several papers in transplant nephrology and currently has interest in management of anemia in CKD and clinical research. He has recently been appointed as Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the University of Illinois.
Akash Ahuja, M.D.
A Chicago native received Bachelors degree from Boston University and went on to Rush University here in Chicago completing medical school, residency, and nephrology fellowship. Board certified in both Medicine and Nephrology. Dr Ahuja is fluent in Spanish. Honors have included Cum Laude graduation from Boston University and Alpha Omega Alpha membership at Rush. Special interests in Nephrology include continuous renal replacement therapies, glomerulonephritis, and interventional nephrology.
Jeanette McLaughlin, M.D.
Dr. McLaughlin grew up in Rockford, Illinois. Undergrad at university of Illinois, med school at university of Illinois at Chicago- Rockford where AOA and grad with honors. Residency and fellowship at university of Chicago. Board certified in Internal medicine and Nephrology. FASN.
